Axle Details

The GM 8.2" axle is available in two configurations: The standard GM 8.2" version features an 8.2" diameter ring gear with 28 spline axle shafts that are held in place using c-clips. The 8.2" BOP (Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac) model is slightly different in that it uses pressed on axle bearings and instead of c-clips, the axles are held in place via bolts. Identifying which axle is which is easy as the standard model has a perfectly round differential cover while the GM 8.2" BOP axle has an irregular shape.

Note: This axle has a Carrier Break and gear changes may require a different carrier or thick gears.
